SENIOR PASTOR
REVEREND
MICHELLE CHAPPELL

Reverend Chappell was appointed to Central UMC on June 28, 2011 and came to us from First UMC of Reidsville where she served as pastor for eight years.  She is an Elder in the Western North Carolina Conference.   Michelle received her Master of Divinity from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC and her Bachelor of Music from Appalachian State University.  Before joining the United Methodist denomination in 1994, she served and was ordained by the Raleigh Baptist Association at the Inwood Baptist Church in 1990.  Other places of service in our conference include Associate Pastor at First UMC in Rutherfordton and Pastor at Long's/Cruso charge in Canton.  Michelle likes to do all "musical" endeavors, read, hike, TRAVEL, finding new places in Charlotte and taking care of "Lucy" her rescued German Shepherd dog.   She loves being a minister and simply can't imagine doing anything else!  She would love to get to know you, so come on by Central Church!

ASSISTANT PASTOR
REVEREND SUSAN SUAREZ WEBSTER


Reverend Webster was raised in the United Methodist Church in Syracuse, NY.  During summer camp one year, she made a commitment to follow Christ.  Soon thereafter, Susan felt called to serve God as a missionary.  Married to her husband, Tim for more than 30 years, they have two sons.  Susan studied Spanish at Syracuse University and completed graduate studies in Bible and Missions at Columbia International University.  She also received her Master in Library Science from the University of South Carolina.  Her missionary service in the country of Mexico for fifteen years involved teaching, outreach and starting new churches.  Susan became a licensed pastor at the Western North Carolina Conference in June 2011 and is pleased to be in her first pastoral appointment at Central United Methodist.  

CHRISTY GERRINGER
DIRECTOR OF YOUTH AND CHILDREN'S MINISTRIES

 

Christy Gerringer is a third grade teacher for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. She graduated from UNC-Charlotte with a Bachelor's Degree in elementary education. Christy has been a member of Central for 33 years. She has two daughters, Jordyn and Joni, and enjoys reading, working in the yard and playing games with the girls.

EDNA WELCH
CHURCH SECRETARY

Edna Welch has been the Church Secretary at Central United Methodist Church for 37 years.  She was born in Roseboro, NC (Sampson County) and grew up with four brothers.  She enjoyed playing baseball and basketball with her brothers.  She then played basketball in high school.  Now she has four children and ten grandchildren.  Her first pastor at CUMC was Reverend George H. Needham.  Reverend Angela Pleasants is the 10th pastor with which Edna has worked.  Watching sports on TV and going to games with her children and grandchildren are her hobby and joy.  She can be reached via email at ednaw@bellsouth.net.

ROBERT L. KENNEDY
DIRECTOR OF MUSIC

Robert L. Kennedy is a renown conductor and clinician having worked with orchestral, handbell, choral and harp ensembles.  He has studied with many music masters in the U S and Europe including special studies with Dr. Andrew Brown, Dr. William Greenfield, Sir David Willcocks and John Rutter, to name a few.  He is President of the Chapter Harp Chapter of AHS, Board Member of Mid-Carolinas Handbell Festival and past Sub-Dean of the Charlotte AGO.  He has been a public school music teacher/supervisor, professor in colleges/universities and prepared choirs for participation in the International Church Music Festivals in Switzerland, Scotland and the UK. He believes music is a ministry and not just a job and always strives to get the best from any ensemble. TOM ADAMS
ACCOUNTANT

Tom Adams has been the financial administrator (church accountant) since December of 1996.  He is a native of Williamsburg VA having moved to Maryland for seven years in 1981 before settling in Charlotte in 1988 with his wife, son and daughter.  He has over 22 years experience in corporate accounting and computer technology.  He worked for "MaBell" for 13 years prior to entering the accounting field.  Tom's hobbies include cooking, stained glass, lighthouses, camping, hiking, gardening, and the ocean.

KAY McDANIEL
HOUSEKEEPING MANAGER

Kay moved to Charlotte from Knoxville, Tennessee with her husband Carlyle in 1979. They have one daughter, Jennifer.  Kay has been associated with Central for 22 years.  Her daugnter was in the pre-school program that was offered in the late 80's and became a pre-school teacher in 1990.  She started cleaning the church in 1994 and her family joined Central in 1999.
She enjoys spending time and traveling with her husband.  She also, enjoys cooking and being with family and friends.
