Central's Community Garden, A Pleasant Place to be was dedicated May 29 with a special service and unveiling of the official scarecrow.
The garden was lovingly dedicated to the Rev. Angela Pleasants who has been a gardening student of Langston Denny.
Most of the plots have been planted and are flourishing with squash, tomatoes, beans and numerous other vegetables. A fence high enough to keep out deer has been completed, and not a day goes by without folks working and watching.
Numerous members, led by Langston Denny, are to be thanked for their tireless contributions planning the project and preparing the soil so that many others will benefit with fresh food. Nancy Wohlfeil serves as administrator.
A hymn, written in honor of Rev. Pleasants, Langston Denny and the many Central congregants who have given numerous hours, donations and prayers to make the Central Community Garden truly a "Pleasant Place to be."
Central Community Garden
Central's Hymn of Promise
"In the bulb there is a flower;
In the seed, an apple tree;
In cocoons, a hidden promise;
Butterflies will soon be free!
In the cold and snow of winter
There's a spring that waits to be,
Unrevealed until its season,
Something God alone can see."
Langston Denny had a vision.
It became a dream deferred.
He saw food and flowers growing -
From God's earth, they came to be -
"unrevealed until its season,
Something God alone can see."
Reverend Angela came to Central,
Spoke of Pentecost and the
Church to be: from all nations -
Different languages -
All the same community.
Still her vision was a garden.
Langston prayed, said "I agree."
"Unrevealed, until its season,
Something God alone can see."
Members, visitors shared the vision.
Uniting church and community
growing together in God's garden.
Many prayed and worked to make
it be.
Varied languages, all one Spirit -
Central Community Garden -
a reality!
"Unrevealed, until its season
something God alone can see."
